Ps1 Military Games - If you ask most gamers with a decent amount of console gaming history, they'll probably be inclined to say that good first-person shooters didn't really exist until the PS2 era. While one can argue all day about what constitutes a high-quality shooter, anyone claiming that the original PlayStation didn't have a decent FPS is either ignorant or deliberately divisive.
In fact, the PS1 had some decent shooters, even if they're pretty primitive by today's standards. However, with retro gaming on the rise, we thought it worth going back and exploring some of these PlayStation titles, so here's our list of the top 7 PS1 "shooters"…

If you're wondering where the boom in WWII-themed shooters on consoles has gone, look no further than Medal of Honor. Yes, it could be argued that PC games like "Wolfenstein 3D" did set the world on fire, but it was this game that brought a new level of realism to historical shooters. Of course, the game doesn't focus as much on the veracity of accounts as it does on placing players in historical context. However, the game did introduce objective-based gameplay in this context, something that can still be found in the game to this day.

Doom is a legendary game in its own right, so one might rightly say that a PC-to-PS1 port was somehow inevitable given the console's popularity. Admittedly, this version of the game isn't quite as polished as its counterpart, but it's still a very solid and atmospheric shooter that's as challenging as it is entertaining. The simple fact that they've added extra creepy music to the game definitely makes a difference.
It goes without saying that Quake II is one of the most impressive and memorable first-person shooters on the PS1. While it's actually a port, the PS1 version adds the ability to run 4-player split-screen matches, making it a solid option for friendly game nights/parties. As far as graphics and overall gameplay go, this might be a must-have for PlayStation 1 fans.
In "Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown," we see another PS1 port - it's basically "Duke Nukem 3D." Needless to say, the game may not be the best, there are certainly prettier FPSs on the PlayStation, but it makes up for it with relatively high frame rates. Perhaps one of the most memorable features is the soundtrack, which features a variety of rock songs.
In short, "Delta Force Urban Warfare" has two strengths--one, it's probably the most fun shooter on the PS1, and two, the game uses objective-based completion mechanics. Still, the title is somewhat elusive, even if it goes down in PS1 history, perhaps because it was in the shadow of "GoldenEye." Either way, it's a really fun game that boosts the PlayStation's graphics prowess.

If there's one FPS on the PS1 that challenges you while keeping you on the edge of your seat, it's "Alien Awakening." Aside from a very creepy atmosphere and dark visuals, the game helps introduce the concept of a survival horror-themed shooter, and it does it extremely well. Players find themselves with little ammo against seemingly impossible odds as they come under attack by ferocious Xenomorphs (mainly in dark alleys). Without a doubt, this is definitely one of the best shooters on PS1.
Finally, we have "007: The World Is Not Enough," which is nothing like the N64 version. Some see the game as a very GoldenEye-like shooter that brings ideal aim-based gameplay to the PS1. Regardless, it's always nice to have 007-themed fun in the usual context of FPS games.

Top Gun: Fire At Will!
A series is a whole bunch of games. It spans multiple genres, consists of a handful of sub-series, and features multiple ports unrelated to the original. A single game might be designed by a completely different group of people, so the quality of one game doesn't necessarily predict the quality of the next game.
The series includes four games, all on Playstation (except for an unrelated game on PC). What sets them apart from other games in the franchise is their foundation. Forget about portals to other worlds, giant kitchens and superweapons; which one
That's not to say it's indistinguishable from war games in general. The main campaign itself borrows heavily from World War II, but the invaders are replaced with green and brown plastic soldiers. It's in keeping with the ubiquitous toy, so you'll still have to shake the M16 and dodge helicopter fire instead of precision gear. But you do it as you blast off the coast of Normandy and crawl through the jungles of a Pacific island. It's a fun mix that feels like entertainment
Consists of more than a dozen missions spanning three theaters. There is strong and interesting variation between missions, both visually and in terms of gameplay. The environments are incredibly detailed, especially for an early 3D game like this one, where the visual separation between early forest levels and later mountainous terrain is quite noticeable. Again, objectives range from driving prisoners of war out of camps to installing cannons on trains. It's a game that's great for presenting new situations, and while it doesn't come together very well, it keeps things interesting throughout its run.

Although, it's a relatively short runtime. I personally finished the game in just a few plays on the default difficulty. Speaking of which, the game's challenges have been fluctuating wildly. I lost a few lives on the third floor trying to get past the helicopter guarding the bridge, but flew through the first few missions of the final campaign. One mission had you load up a ton of bazookas and mortar rounds in an attempt to take a bridge from the enemy, but when it came time to do so, I was surprised how little resistance there was. It's kind of anticlimactic; most of the ammo is useless.
Among other things, the game requires close-range clairvoyance to avoid disaster. In the train level mentioned above, there is a collision near the end, which you need to know ahead of time to avoid on the first try. not that bad
Tend to just drop the bazooka infantry at the end of the level, but there are times when the game deserves the middle finger.
Is based on the foundation. There's no real narrative or dialogue, and it doesn't stray too far from farce, aside from an inappropriate inclusion of technology from a different era and an obvious focus on plastic infantry. There's nothing on the battlefield to suggest this is a fighting toy, which is quite unusual for the series. Even the series staple flamethrower rarely makes an appearance (I've only seen it used by enemies in the main campaign). The color scheme is too weak to depict the harsher battlefields, though this has the disadvantage of darkening and blurring the graphics.

However, it still has a certain level of fun. Soldiers are still liquid, chunks fly off when you shoot them, and if you get hit with dynamite, your rigid figure bounces off like an inanimate toy. Each mission ends with a rotating newspaper showing headlines related to your most recent successes. Aside from the setting, it doesn't seem to be trying to deliver a realistic experience. It strikes a nice balance, maintaining the identity of the series but presenting something a little more immediate.
Series. When I was younger, I was really jealous of the Playstation, which could receive series of games that I didn't have access to.
